BABUIK, Michael - In loving memory of Michael Babuik, 93 years, who passed away Friday, December 4th, 2009 at the SRH-St. Joseph's Health Center. Born in Swan Plain Sask., Michael married Vera (Havrachynsky) in Toronto in 1950. He was a miner at INCO retiring in 1972 with 35 years service and then worked as a security officer with the City of Sudbury for 5 years. Mike was a proud Canadian having served overseas with the Canadian Army during WWII having been wounded at the beaches on D-Day. He was a founding member & past Dominion President of the War Pensioners of Canada. A man of faith he belonged to St. Volodymyrs Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church where he actively participated in the church's activities. He was an accomplished woodworker and he enjoyed golfing. He and his precious wife of 59 years Vera spent many happy winters in Florida. Mike will be remembered as a hardworking man who was devoted to his family and well respected by all who knew him. Beloved husband of Vera (Havrachynsky) Babuik. Loving father of Robert Babuik (wife Carolanne), Bruce Babuik (wife Sandra) and Gail Walker (husband Bill predeceased). Cherished grandfather of Brent Walker (wife Troy) and Bradley Walker (wife Faith), Derek, Mirium and Paul and great grandchildren Taylor, Joshua, Lindsay, Liam, Aaron, Lauren and Noah. Dear son of Metro and Maria (Korlyk) Babuik predeceased. Dear brother of Emily McFarland and predeceased by Sam, Nick, Annie, John, Ollie and Adam. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St at Hazel St. Funeral Service in St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church, 190 Baker St., Sudbury, Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 at 10AM. Cremation with interment in the Civic Cemetery. Panakhyda 7PM Monday. A memorial service will be held 7:30PM, Monday under the auspices of the War Pensioners of Canada. Donations to St. Volodymyr's Church would be appreciated. (Friends may call 2-4; 6-9PM Monday).
