MARLEAU, Diane

February 1, 2013 70

MARLEAU, The Hon. Diane Paulette (nee LeBel) P.C., M.P. - Born June 21, 1943 Kirkland Lake. Died January 30 2013 Sudbury. Diane often said: “You sleep very well when you've done your best, and worked with honesty and integrity.“ Diane Marleau served the people of Sudbury for close to 30 years, first as a city councillor, then as the Member of Parliament. From 1993 to 1999, she held the Cabinet portfolios of Heath, Public Works, International Cooperation and Francophonie. Diane lived a public and private life filled with family and friends, love and hope, laughter and tears, world leaders and constituents, politics but not partisanship. She most wanted to be remembered for fighting the good fight, serving the people of Sudbury well, and for loving her friends and family. She always said: “I've had a good life“. . .and she really meant it. She learned from her grandmother that love can be shown through a home cooked meal- - from Duncan Hines birthday cakes to elaborate soirees too, Diane loved to cook for those she loved. Diane is survived by her husband and sous-chef of 49 years, Paul, and her children Brigitte, Donald (Carolyn), Stephane (Natalie). She also leaves her beloved grandson Julian, her brothers Jean-Claude (Helene) and Roger (Lise), her sisters-in-law Claire Stefuik and Anita Ducharme, as well as many nieces and nephews. And of course, she'll be missed greatly by her dog Angel Bit and her granddog Ellie. Diane was the daughter of Yvonne LeBel (predeceased). She was born in Kirkland Lake but has been a proud resident of Sudbury for almost 50 years. Sleep well Diane, you've earned it. There will be a celebration of Diane's life at 2pm on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at St. Andrew's Place in Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, donations (by cheque only) to Maison Vale Hospice would be greatly appreciated.Funeral arrangements entrusted to the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, Sudbury.
