In Loving Memory of Kenneth “Ken” Machum Ken passed away suddenly on June 30th at his beloved cabin on Manitoulin Island. Beloved husband of Shelley (Mackwood) Machum. Loving father of Anthony, Nigel (Louise) and Ashley (Gregory Hutton). Cherished son of Gordon and Marian Machum both predeceased. Dear brother of Harry predeceased (Dorothy), Kendal (Dennis Farwell), Michael (Jennifer), Jean (Michel Blanchard), and Howard (Anne-Marie). Loving son-in-law of Ambrose and Ferne Mackwood. Dear brother-in-law of Lawrence (Donna) and Gerald (Linda). Sadly missed by godchild Sara, 16 wonderful nieces and nephews, a growing number of great nieces and nephews, and his surviving aunts and uncles. Ken was born March 6th, 1952 in Sudbury. He attended Rosseau Lake College. In 1975 he married Shelley, whom he met at Laurentian University where he graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1976. He and Shelley owned and operated Melwel Lodge near Thessalon for five years. Ken was Manager of the Sheraton Caswell for over twenty years. He was most recently employed in the Service Department at Reliable Maintenance. Ken’s family was his greatest joy. He expressed his love to Shelley daily in actions and in words. He took great pleasure in spending time with his children and their spouses and proudly recounted their accomplishments. Ken was so excited about becoming a grandfather later this year. Ken’s favourite place was the log cabin he built with Shelley in 1976 and continued to improve over the years. There, with his siblings and parents as neighbours, the “Machum compound” was the perfect environment in which to spend time with his wife, children, and extended family. Friends were always welcome and he was a wonderful host. Ken’s closest circle of friends dated back many years. He loved to keep up to date with them and exchange ideas and laughter. Ken was creative, kind, talented, logical, loving, always willing to lend a hand, and never idle. He missed his own parents and treated his parents-in-law with the same love, respect, and affection. The feeling was certainly mutual. Ken and Shelley have always been a team. Their bond only grew stronger over the years as classmates, newlyweds, business partners, parents and empty-nesters. Ken loved to take care of Shelley and she did the same for him – their strengths just balanced out perfectly. Funeral Service In the R. J.
