In loving memory of Doris Parker (Knight) At the grand age of 91, surrounded by loving family at the Science North Health Centre in Sudbury, on Friday, July 18th. She will be greatly missed by many. Loving wife of the late Franklyn (Bud) Parker; and cherished friend of Jack Angove; beloved mother of Linda and husband, John Cambridge (St. Josephs Island, ON); the late Beverly Parker-Spencer (Jeff); Barry and wife Donna (Sudbury); Laurie and husband, Terry Gallant (Fort McMurray, AB). Also survived by 5 grandchildren (Heather, Craig, Bryce, Dylan and Beverly); and 3 great-grandchildren (Emma, Gavin, and Victoria). Doris was also predeceased by two sisters, Joan and Winnifred. Doris was born in London, England; and met her husband while he was serving in the Canadian Forces during World War II. In 1944, following the birth of their first child, Linda; Doris boarded the Isle de France, along with thousands of other British war brides and left her home to make the transatlantic crossing to Canada. The couple moved to Kapuskasing to raise their family until Bud retired. They spent many years of their retirement travelling to Texas for the cold winter months. She had many stories to tell of the adventures in her life. Doris loved to knit and produced many beautiful sweaters, socks and other items for family and friends. She also loved to read, and could knit while reading a book and watching TV - without missing a single stitch. She was an ace at Darts, Shuffleboard, Trivial Pursuit, and a challenge to beat at Scrabble. The family will receive friends at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home at 233 Larch Street, Sudbury, from 2:00 until 4:00 on Thursday, July 24th 2014. A service will follow in the R.J. Barnard Chapel at 4:00; with refreshments served afterwards. Internment of ashes will take place on Friday, July 25th, at 2:00 pm at the Civic Memorial Cemetery. Donations may be made to NCF – Breast Cancer or to the Maison Vale Hospice.
