Ilona passed away peacefully in Sudbury on July 17, 2014, with her family at her side. Born in Sudbury, Ontario on October 26, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Jens and Saima Antola. Ilona was predeceased by her beloved husband, George White, and her dear sister, Irene Wallenius. Loved and cherished by her children; Kevin (Ruth) of Toronto; Craig (Peg) of Beeton; Douglas (Lisa) of Sudbury; Mark (Louise) of Toronto. Loved by her grandchildren; Candice, Chloe, D’Arcy, Erik, Jeffrey, Karly, Megan, Natalie, Nathan, and Tara. Ilona is also survived by her dear sisters-in-law; Myrtle Mandeno of Owen Sound and Bunny Skelly of Toronto. She was a beloved aunt to eleven nieces and nephews. Ilona attended College Street P.S. and the Sudbury Mining and Technical School. She worked for Bell Canada as a Business Office Supervisor. Ilona left work to be a full time mother for her four boys. She later returned to work for the Sudbury Board of Education. Ilona was a devoted member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Algoma Chapter #139, and the Ladies of Kaleva. The family wishes to recognize, and thank, the nurses and doctors at Health Sciences North for the great care they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations; to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the Knights and Ladies of Kaleva Inc. Scholarship Bursary Program, or the Finlandia Sisu Charitable Foundation, would be appreciated. Visitation and Services will be on Saturday July 26, 2014 after 1 pm, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 189 Regent St., Sudbury. Eastern Star Memorial Service at 1:30 pm under the auspices of the Algoma Chapter #139, Ladies of Kaleva Memorial Service will commence at 1:45 pm. Church Service at 2 pm. Interment of ashes at the Civic Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
