In loving memory of Vaino Armas Koski, 86 years, who passed away peacefully at Maison Vale Hospice with his family at his side on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret Johanna (nee Recoskie) in 2012. Loving father of Donna McNamara (Dale) and Susan Terpstra (John). Cherished Papa of grandchildren Ian McNamara (Melodie), Katie Chevrier (Anthony) and Christina Terpstra (Chad) and great grandson Weston Michael Chevrier. Vaino was born in Garson, Ontario on July 5, 1928 to Nikolai and Maria (nee Matson) Koski, both predeceased. Dear brother of Winnie Hirsimaki (Isaac), Saimi Karvinen (Edwin), Reino Koski (Jeanne) and Tauno Koski (Sadie) all predeceased. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Vaino grew up on the family farm in Garson, the youngest of five children. He built his home next to his parents and brothers and continued to live in the family home all his life. He began his 38 year career with Ontario Hydro in 1948 working at various hydroelectric stations in Northeastern Ontario. For the last ten years of his career, he was the Sudbury District Operating Supervisor, retiring in 1986. Vaino and Margaret and their daughters spent many wonderful summers with family and friends at the “camp” on Kukagami Lake, which is Vaino’s legacy to his children and grandchildren. Vaino enjoyed hunting and fishing and was proud of his flower and vegetable gardens. Photography was a hobby that has left his family with beautiful memories. He brought Margaret and his daughters on many family vacations exploring Canada. In his later years he tirelessly looked after Margaret and spent hours every day with her at the nursing home where she spent her remaining four and a half years. We were all very happy that Dad was able to attend the Koski Family Reunion in August 2013, where he met with over one hundred of his parents’ descendants. Family was most important to Vaino. His home was often filled with family for Christmas dinners, New Year’s Eve parties and family reunions. He was proud of both is daughters and especially proud of his grandchildren Ian, Katie and Christina. He enjoyed visiting with his one month old great grandson during his last week. He is now at rest following a year long struggle with cancer. Vaino will be lovingly remembered for his unconditional love and support for his family. “Daddy, Papa” we will love you and miss you forever and always.
