It is with great sadness that the family of Martha Maria Lahti (Maki) announces her passing at the Maison Vale Hospice on August 11th, 2014. Born in Copper Cliff in 1919, Martha was a lifelong resident of the Sudbury area. After her marriage to Leo Lahti (predeceased) she lived briefly on Victoria Street before moving to Lockerby / South End where she lived for 66 years and then moved to Finlandia Village. Martha was a loving mother to Dorothy (John Jelaca) of Bolton and Leona (Patrick MacIsaac) of Sudbury. She was Mummu to four grandchildren; John Jelaca (Cathy), Tanya (Jamie Johnston), Andrew MacIsaac (Christina), and Kristin (Ryan Bouchard) as well as nine great grandchildren; Justin, Taryn, Katie Jelaca, Gavin and Nathan MacIsaac, Kate and Lauren Bouchard, Emma and Hugo Johnston. This family was the joy of her life. She also enjoyed puttering in her garden and was an avid reader. Camp at Penage was a big part of her life fro many years. During her illness, Martha received exceptional care from Drs. Kealy, Caycedo, Bakker and Singh as well as the staff at Finlandia and the hospice. We send a special thank you to these and others who helped and supported her and the family along the way. As per Martha’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. If desired, a donation may be made to the charity on one’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
