MCLEOD, J. Margaret (Kirk)

In loving memory of Margaret Jean McLeod  (Kirk), 84 years old.  Died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Villa surrounded by her family.  Beloved wife of Stewart McLeod (predeceased) Loving daughter of Russell and Dorcas Kirk (predeceased).  Devoted mother of Katheryn (Glen Bednis), Norman (Khuan), Andrew (Jackie) and Ian (Melanie). Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchild.  Mark (Jacqui), Kirk, John and Neil (Melanie  St. Pierre) Bednis, Duncan and Jordan (Cassandra Romain) McLeod and Heather and Ross McLeod. She has a new great-grandchild, Pearson Bednis.   Her best friends were her brothers, sisters and sister-in-laws.  Hugh Kirk (predeceased), (Jane,) Bruce Kirk (Betty), Marilyn Shahen (Ted predeceased), Bill Kirk (predeceased) (Yvonne predeceased), Lillian Kirk and Ruth Purdy (Bill).   Mum enjoyed the love and companionship of her huge family which included many nieces and nephews.   Her favourite place in the world was her cottage on Mississippi Lake near Carleton Place where she spent summer holidays with her family.  Parties, bridge games and conversations long into the night, followed by “skinny dips” were all part of the fun and joy of her “little piece of heaven”. Margaret was a graduate of the Ottawa Civic nursing program in 1951.  Mum pursued this career in nursing for 20 years, primarily at Memorial Hospital. Stewart and Margaret bought Welcome Confectionary in 1970 and operated this business for 21 years.  To stay connected to the medical field, Mum opened Lasalle Uniform Shoppe in 1972.  In 1985, she sold the store to her son, Andrew. We would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s. Villa for the passionate and kind care they gave our mother.   Memorial service at St. Stephen’s on the Hill United Church, 1248 Lauzon Ave., Sudbury on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 at 12 PM. (Friends may gather at the church after 11 AM)  Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson Society.
