In loving memory of Martin Francis MacInnis, the family announces with great sorrow his passing at the Elizabeth Care Centre on September 22nd, 2014 at the age of 85. Dear husband of the late Teresa MacDonald (predeceased in 2012).  Cherished father of Katherine (Bernie), Elaine (Tim), Mari (Wayne), Janice (Norm) and Michelle (Neil). Dear grandfather of Kendall (Michael), Lainie, Brandon, Connor, Sydney, Jenna, Tristen, Peter, Stuart and Taylor. Survived by brothers Father Dan, Hughie, Lauchie and sisters Theresa Dowie and Rita MacDonald all of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He is predeceased by his parents Angus and Margaret and brothers John and Michael and sisters Mary Ann MacIsaac, Annie Deliskie and Margaret Campbell and in-laws Hughie Campbell, Alex Dowie, Jerome Deliskie, Steve MacIsaac, Christina MacInnis and Donald MacDonald. Martin was born on January 4th, 1929 in Frenchvale, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Dad left Cape Breton in his early twenties. After a brief time in Brantford, he moved to Sudbury in 1951 after reading in the Brantford Expositor that INCO was hiring miners. He worked steady ""graveyard"" shifts underground so that he could operate his trucking business as an independent owner/operator of sand and gravel truck. Dad worked 16 hours a day for 30+ years. He retired from INCO after 33 years and continued driving his truck until he was 75 years old. He had an impeccable work ethic matched by few. He was proudly one of the founding members of The Greater Northern Ontario Trucking Association. Dad was a great provider and very generous to his family, we appreciated the extra Christmas monies for Levine's. Dad loved growing tomatoes, listening to Cape Breton music, was a supporter of North American vehicles (Fords/Chevs), loved watching and talking hockey, he was a proud Canadian, informed in politics, loved eating lobster flown in from the Maritimes, and always enjoyed a game of checkers with his grandchildren and winning. In his last year of life, he was able to see his youngest granddaughter Jenna score a hat trick. He loved everything Sudbury be it Golden Grain bread, the meat shops, the cheese shops, reading the current events in the Sudbury Star or picking strawberries in Chelmsford. One of the benefits of Dad's trucking career was that he was able to see Sudbury from every corner. He was a wealth of information about the history of Sudbury. He will be sadly missed by his family.  A private family celebration of his life will take place at Lougheeds Funeral Home on September 24th, 2014. The family would like to thank the staff at the Elizabeth Care Centre who took great care of our father. In memoriam of Dad, donations can be may be made to the Parkinson's Society Canada, The Heart and Stroke Association or the charity of your choice.
