HEALY , J. Harold Jr. 'Hub'

Harold passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Grey-Bruce Residential Hospice in Owen Sound. His courageous battle with cancer ended at age 67. Harold is predeceased by his parents, Harold John Healy Sr. and Beatrice (nee Hardcastle).  He was a devoted father to Erin, Cara and Kimberly (Mark Aggio), their mother Norma.  Special father to Cori Campbell.  Loving grandfather to Skylar, Rylan, Kristen, Sarah, Isabella, Max and Campbell. Beloved brother to Carol (Don Robertson Sr.), Margaret (Barry Sullivan) and Peter Healy.  Harold was adored by his nieces and nephews Don Jr. (Janin), Cindy (Mike), Sean, Jessica, Chris and Scott. Pre-deceased by his treasured nephews Robbie and Trevor Sullivan.  He was very close to his cousin Mary and her family, where he was more of a brother to them. He was cherished by Donna-Marie and was a mentor to her children Maddison and Quinton. Together they shared a passion for astronomy. Harold was an exceptional teacher for over 30 years with the Separate School Board in Sudbury. He retired in 2001 from St John’s elementary school in Garson. Harold took great pride in his students and many spoke of how he had inspired them. He became involved with the Sudbury Astronomy Club to pursue his hobby, and was President of the club for a number of years. On occasion, he operated the planetarium at Laurentian University. With a lifetime pursuit of astronomy, Harold often referred to himself as the Great-Know-It-All of star-gazing. Harold acquired his Messier and NGC certificates from RASC and SAC. Founder of the Frozen Banana Star Party (FBSP) which occurred twice a year.  His favourite saying was “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.” Harold spent his final days in comfort at the Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce (Seasons), in Owen Sound. The family invites the public to share their memories of Harold at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home in Sudbury on Friday October 3rd, from 6-9pm and Saturday October 4th after 11am. Memorial Service in the R. J. Barnard Chapel on Saturday, October 4th, 2014 at 1pm. Many thanks to the Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce (Seasons), Owen Sound for their exceptional care and support. Harold’s wish was to have a huge party, Irish style with his favourite cigars and brandy to celebrate his life with his friends.  To honour his last wish, let us eat, drink and share all of those precious memories we have of Harold - our mentor, partner and best friend - together. Memorial donations may be made to the Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce (Seasons), Owen Sound.
