In Loving Memory of Joseph Paul Maizuk (1922-2014) The family is very sad to announce his passing on Thursday, October 2nd, 2014.  Joe is predeceased by his parents Violet (1968) and Fred (1958), his brother Bill (2000) and John (1948), and his sister Helen (2008). He leaves behind his loving wife Jenny (Poland) Maizuk, his daughter Eileen Viola (Joe) and his grandchildren Paula (Ivo Entchev) and Joel. He also enjoyed the friendship of his step-children Carol Ann Carbone (Reno), Patrick Poland, Dan Poland (Sharon) and Shawn Poland (Judy) as well as his step-grandchildren Trevor, Scott, Blaire, Chelsea, Graham and his “sweetheart” Siobhan, and great grandchildren June and Nash.  He is also predeceased by his first wife Nellie (Kasper) (2002). He leaves several nieces and nephews including Dan, Valerie, Rosemary, Christine and Robert Gobbo, and Donna Firth.  Joe retired from Falconbridge Nickel Mines after 35 years and went to work part time with Canadian Tire Corp. As an avid sportsman Joe excelled at baseball in his youth, golf in his retirement, and fishing and hunting throughout his life. His competitive spirit found an outlet as a “Master Class” hand gun shooter. He attended and won competitions all over North America in the 1960s and 1970s and received special recognition as “All Ontario” hand gun champion from former Ontario Premier William Davis and was a member of the Canadian National Team that same year.  Joe knew how to live life to the fullest. He was very proud of being from Northern Ontario and of being Ukrainian. He was both a “lady’s man” and a “man’s man”. He excelled at ballroom dancing and had an effortless style all his own. He was equally adept at organizing hunting and fishing trips with his buddies. He loved helping the cooks make cabbage rolls and pyrogies at the Ukrainian Senior’s Centre. They loved his charm and humour which were the hallmarks of his personality. He was a devout Catholic and a Knight of Columbus and member of Fr. Philip Theriault Council 11522. Joe’s final 12 years were enriched by the love and devotion of his second wife Jenny. They danced, travelled, entertained and at Joe’s insistence went fishing at Georgian Bay and Fox Lake. As a couple, they were truly “young at heart”. Joe’s final wish was to dance with his granddaughter Paula on her wedding day. His wish was granted in July of this year.  The family would like to thank Dr. McCallum for decades of compassionate care, the fabulous PSWs (especially Sheila) and nurses who provided home care and at the end, the extraordinary staff at Maison Vale Hospice.  Visitation will be held in the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street (Friends may call 2-5pm; 7-9pm Sunday with parish prayers at 7:30pm Sunday) Funeral Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, 39 Walford Road Monday, October 6th, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Interment in the St. John Cemetery, Garson Donations to the Ukrainian Seniors’ Centre or the Maison Vale Hospice would be appreciated.
