In loving memory of Martha Eschuk (nee Punstel) who passed away Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 at the Finlandia Nursing home in Sudbury. Martha was born in Biscotasing, Ontario in 1921 to Antton and Ida Puustel (both predeceased). Loving mother of Diana Hayes of Nepean (husband Jack, children Michael, Timothy partner Jennifer Ballantyne and Ben), Garry Eschuk of Squamish B.C. (children Craig and Heather), Lillian Hrytsak of Sudbury (husband Irvin, children Rodney and Patricia husband David McDaniel) and Dawn McCutcheon of Nepean (husband Glenn and his children Sean and Corey). Great Grandmother to Alexander, Andrew, Emma, Kiera, Liam, Adeline and Charlotte. Dear sister of Walter Punstel, Olavi Punstel, Lillian Beaudoin and Esther Hood all predeceased. Martha grew up on the family farm on the shores of Biscotasi Lake and despite the depression years had a very happy childhood. Affectionately called “The Kid” by her older siblings, her fondest childhood memories included long summer days on the farm, swimming in and skating on the lake, missing school during ice break up and becoming a very fast runner pursuing her siblings. Martha was proud of her contribution to the war effort, working as a sampler at the Copper Cliff Mill, replacing men who went off to war. In 1943 she married Gerald Eschuk (predeceased 2008). They were long-time residents of Garson where Martha worked at Kraft Cleaners and Dolcini’s Food Store for a time, but most of her adult life was devoted to caring and making a home for her husband and four children. She had a love of reading as well as telling stories. Perhaps most of all she enjoyed spending time at the camp in Biscotasing, cooking on the wood stove, burning brush, fishing and visiting with family and friends.  Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Ave., Sudbury on Saturday October 11th  2014 at 10:30 am. Interment in the St. John's Cemetery, Garson. Panakhyda (Prayers) at 7 pm Friday. Donations to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Friends may call 4-8 pm Friday.
