Genowefa Malinski, 86, passed away peacefully, November 12, 2014, at St. Joseph's Villa, Sudbury. Beloved wife to the late Marian Malinski, for over 48 years. Devoted mother of Edward (Yvette Tasse), Elizabeth (Jim Argue) and Daniel (Barb Neelands). Very proud Babcia of Marc- Andre, Karine, Veronique, Erin, Katrina and Hannah. Born in Poland, to the late Ludwig and Elzbieta Perz, Genowefa was the eldest of five children. Her siblings live in Windsor: Tim (Helene), Ruth (late Steve), Paul (Ann) and Joseph (Beryl). Genowefa was a teenager, when the 1939 invasion of Poland occurred. This event imposed many challenges and hardships upon her family, including years of forced labour in a German prison camp. After World War II, at the age of 20, Genowefa, boarded the Santa Maria, in Hamburg Germany. Seeking employment and adventure in a country of great promise, she crossed the Atlantic, arriving at Pier 1, Halifax in 1948. She found work as a nurse in training at a Sanitarium in Winnipeg. After several months, she met, through correspondence, a handsome suitor, Marian Malinski, who had also been a Polish immigrant. They soon married and settled in Timmins. As a homemaker, Genowefa excelled at managing a busy household. She was an accomplished seamstress, gardener, and cook, always taking pleasure in preparing traditional Polish dishes. Thanks to her sweet tooth, there was never a shortage of desserts to share with family and friends. To contribute to the family income, she proudly worked as a domestic for a number of prominent Timmins residents. Genowefa was kind, generous, and giving of her time to family, friends and community. She was a committed and long time member of the Timmins Polish White Eagle Ladies' Auxiliary. Genowefa's life was at times difficult, particularly through the war and in her later stage of illness, but her perseverance and sense of humour helped her overcome these challenging times. Genowefa's smile, laughter and good nature endeared her to many people. She will be lovingly remembered by all. The family is grateful to the Lakeview staff of St. Joseph Villa for their professional care and support. Special thanks to 'Babcia's daytime companions, Anna and Mariola, from The Circle of Care.
