Fay, Dr. William Patrick It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. William (Liam) Patrick Fay announce his passing at Health Sciences North on November 14th 2014. He passed peacefully and was surrounded by his loving family. Liam was born in Trim, County Meath, Ireland in 1942. Earning a scholarship to medical school at the age of 17, he was the youngest to be accepted to and graduate from medical school at University College Dublin. Liam went on to do his residency in Gibraltar, before immigrating to Canada with his wife Anne and their daughter Heather. Upon graduating, he moved to Sudbury where he began practicing Nephrology. He set up the first Dialysis Unit and then expanded to include 7 Satellite Units throughout the North. An avid hurling player in his youth, he was a member of the Comhaltas and Irish Heritage Club, where he enjoyed Gaelic football games. He enjoyed spending time with his family and dedicated his life to serving his patients. His expertise and dedication was recognized by numerous awards, including the Honorary Life Member Award (Science North), the Glenn Sawyer Service Award (Ontario Medical Association), and recently the Human Touch Award. He was well-loved by his staff and patients. We would like to thank long-time friends, Dr. Goluch, Dr. Cano, Dennis and Jill Carrier, also the staff of the 8th floor (cardiology) and ICU, his secretary and partner in crime, Bernadette Walacki, Lauri Tomiuk, Mary-Katherine Coady and all the Dialysis staff at Health Sciences North, as well as the staff at the Satellite Units. You are all too numerous to mention, but all equally important. Liam is survived by his loving and darling wife Anne, their children Heather (husband Charles), Tania, Michael, Conor, Natasha (husband Syras) and Eóin, and by his grandchildren Dagmar, Éile, Meallá, Simeon and Anna. He is also survived by his brother Sean in Ireland (wife Kathleen), and their children Ellen, Thomas, Mary, James, and Paula. Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch St., Sudbury (Friends may call 4-8pm Monday with parish prayers 4:30pm Monday). Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church 30 Beech St., Sudbury Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 at 10am. Cremation with interment in Ireland. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dr. W. P. Fay Bursary (Northern Ontario School of Medicine) or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
