In Loving Memory of Joan Doreen Payne (nee Shaw) (Hall) 80 years Peacefully Thursday, November 27th, 2014 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury.  Beloved wife of Harold Payne predeceased 2006. Loving mother of Linda Church (Edward predeceased), Jennifer Gervais (husband Richard) and stepchildren Patricia Challis, Cathy Denomy and Brenda Morrison. Cherished grandmother of 23 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Dear daughter of William Lloyd and Irene (Rust) Shaw predeceased. Loving sister of Bob Shaw (wife Marian) and Pat Raynor and Lenore both predeceased. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews.  Born and raised in Hamilton, Joan moved to Sudbury in 1970 from Toronto. She married Harold Payne in Sudbury in 1971. She had been a clerical worker for the Government of Canada from 1961 – 1969. A proud Canadian, she had been the CWAC Warrant Officer and served in the Toronto Services Battalion. She had been an honorary member of the Korean War Veterans Association. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps Association, Irish Regiment of Canada (Sudbury), Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 Sudbury, past secretary War Pensioners of Canada, Mended Hearts Association and the Girl Guides of Canada for over 20 years. Joan will be remembered as a very dynamic and compassionate person who was always quick to help others.  Funeral Service in the Lougheed Funeral Home Monday, December 1st, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. (Friends may call 2-5; 7-9 P.M. Sunday and after 10:30 A.M. Monday) A memorial service will be held Sunday at 7:30pm under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76, Sudbury. Cremation with entombment in Field of Honour at the Civic Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Easter Seals Society would be appreciated.
