BIRKAS, Janet (Claridge)

In loving memory of Janet Birkas (nee Claridge), 1936-2014 at the age of 78 years. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Janet Ann Birkas on Monday, December 15th, 2014 at Health Sciences North. Loving wife of 54 years to Steve Birkas. Dear mother of Heather Ripa (John) of Ottawa, John of Sudbury and Jennifer (Michael Milligan) of Kingston. Loving grandmother to Michael Ripa and Amy Ripa. Cherished sister of Marguerite Evans predeceased. Sadly missed by Doug and Sandi Evans, Peg and Jim Torrance, Paul and Jane Evans. Janet was born and raised in Sudbury and enjoyed living in the north. She completed her nursing training at the Wellesley Hospital in Toronto and worked at the Sudbury General Hospital prior to her marriage. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Epiphany and volunteered in her community and church. Janet was known for her cooking, baking and her sense of fun. She enjoyed her neighbourhood and time with her family at her camp on Long Lake. Janet will be remembered as a generous and compassionate person whose lives were touched by her. There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 from 10 to 11:30 AM at The Church of the Epiphany, 85 Larch St., Sudbury followed by the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers donations to the Church of the Epiphany building restoration fund would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
