SLATER, Susan Caroline (nee Jacobs) In her sixtieth year called home to enter into the joy of her Lord and Saviour. Born in Toronto March 5, 1955. Promoted to heaven at the Maison Vale Hospice on December 21, 2014. Exceptionally loving wife of Andrew Slater, married May 31, 1991. Extraordinary mother of Jonathan Cole Slater (May 5, 1993) and Joel Emerson Joseph Slater (August 28, 1994). Predeceased by her father Ray Herbert Jacobs. Survived by her mother Caroline Jacobs and siblings Rae Ellen Edmunds (Rick), John Jacobs, Tim Jacobs (Andrea), Leslie Jane Jacobs and Christine Smith (Les). Sue graduated from Laurentian University with a (Hons.)B.S.W. and was a social worker before attending Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. She practiced as a family law lawyer in Sudbury and was appreciated by her clients as a loving, compassionate and articulate advocate of their cause. Notwithstanding her career, her true character shone forth as a home maker and mother. She put her career on hold for 15 years while she nurtured and home schooled her sons before returning to the practice of law in her fifties. Sue was always actively engaged in her church, serving in various capacities, her first love being her Lord. Sue was incredibly gifted and creative as a producer of fine quilts. This became a passion of hers and the many who received a quilt from her appreciated her talent and the warmth of her heart. More recently she took up knitting wool socks, warming the feet as well as the heart of many. Her desire was to be a Proverbs 31 woman and to assist younger women to aspire to that goal. “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels” (Proverbs 31:10). The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Funeral service at Glad Tidings Church on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. In her final days here on earth Sue received exceptionally loving care from the staff at the Maison Vale Hospice. The family would appreciate that in her memory, donations (by cheque only) be made to the Maison Vale Hospice to enable them to carry on their fine work in assisting people making the transition from here to eternity.
