Mary Brown (nee Gemmell) passed away peacefully on the 24th day of June at Sudbury Health Sciences North in her ninety-fifth year. Dear Mother of Donald Brown and Judi Straughan and special Mother-in-law to Bill Straughan, she provided her grandchildren Rob, Ryan and Kelly with many special times. Maribel Straughan, Christian, Lucas and Abigail Bellsmith, as well as Corrine Carbone hold a special place in their hearts for her. Mary thoroughly enjoyed all stages of her life including twenty-five years at the T.Eaton Co. in Sudbury, owning a camp on Trout Lake near French River and a winter accommodation in St. Petersburg Florida for quarter of a century. She grew up in Manitoba where she married Stanley before moving to Sudbury in 1940. Stan passed away on the same day, June 24, twenty-one years ago. Thanks to the staff at Extendicare York for their years of care and for sharing so many laughs with her. She was loved by all who knew her. As Mary always proclaimed, “Mary Brown has the best legs in town.” Everyone is welcome to a celebration in the Sudbury Theatre Centre lounge, Shaughnessy Street, on Sunday evening, June 28 from 7 – 8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Sudbury would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
