In loving memory of Dorothy Evelyn Byers (Morgan). Dorothy finished her race early Tuesday morning, (August 18th, 2015) in her 83rd year, just after being readied for breakfast at the Elizabeth Center. She peacefully departed, joining her Saviour Jesus, husband John Ronald “Ronnie” Byers of 52 years (predeceased March 11, 2004) and daughter Margaret “Samantha” Byers (predeceased September 5th, 1993) in Heaven for breakfast. Loving mother of Deborah Elizabeth Byers (Ron Matthews), John Charles Ronald Byers (Nicole Desloges, mother of Qorban), Dorothy “Kathryn” Simard (Claude) and Nancy-Joan Byers (Robert Dallaire, father of David). Cherished grandmother of Jacquelyn Simard-Rheaume (Dan), Qorban Byers (Mary-Elizabeth) and David Dallaire (Rachel McGowan) and great grandmother of Colton and Keira Rheaume, Benaiah Byers and Robert Dallaire. Dorothy was also a special step-grandmother and step-great grandmother to Ron Matthews, son Joel (Angie) and their children Haven, Bronwyn, Maddoch, Caedam and Ainsley. Dorothy was born on February 27th, 1932 to Frank and Gladys Morgan predeceased, sister to Margaret McLellan predeceased (Doug) and brother Royston Morgan. She will be missed by many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and all her friends at the Elizabeth Center. She also will be missed greatly by her friend and caregiver June Kawa, who without her help and companionship at the Elizabeth Center for the last 11 years which helped make Dorothy’s struggles so much easier. We thank you June from the whole family. In her prime, Dorothy worked for the T. Eaton Company in the boy’s department, , it was around that time that she captured the heart of our Dad and were married at St. Andrew’s United Church, September 10th, 1952, the start of a long and happy marriage. Her love of the Lord Jesus made her active with St. Paul’s United Church by teaching Sunday School, a vocalist in the choir and a member of the United Church Women’s Association. Dorothy was always ready to engage and participate in every activity, a gardener, a poet, hockey player (goalie), painter, loved to sew and needle work, an avid baker and handy in all crafts. Later in life she decided to go back to school at Thorneloe University and graduated with a degree in Religious Studies. In the late 70’s, Mom and Dad became members of Pastor Kitchener and Jean Mahood’s All Nation Congregation and were endeavouring to build their lives in another circle when Dorothy became ill. This illness led to a somewhat compromised lifestyle for them. Their world became much smaller but their spiritual life grew and became deeper. If you wanted to find Dorothy and Ronnie from early May to late October, you would just have to look for them at their cottage on Long Lake, this is where they were the happiest. Here they would watch beautiful mornings and sunsets. They both loved to watch all the different birds and wildlife that crossed their path. Dorothy Evelyn Byers was an incredible mother, she gave us life, taught us to walk, read to us and made us laugh! She delighted in our successes and no one comforted us better in our failures and hurts. She left us all in Jesus, her legacy is eternal. Thank you Mom. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight. I have completed the race. I have kept the faith. The prize that shows I have God’s approval is waiting for me. Philippians 1:21 For me to live is Christ (his life in me) and to die is gain (the gain of the glory of eternity). We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the staff and management of the Elizabeth Center for their devotion and care of Dorothy. A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held Saturday, September 12th, 2015 in the R. J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury at 2pm.
