MERRICK, William 'Bill'

In loving memory of William “Bill” Merrick who passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 16, 2015 at the age of 82. Bill lived a very happy and fulfilling life. Loving husband of Claire (nee Lalonde), beloved father of his darlin’ daughter Brenda Merrick and son Dan Merrick (Leslie) and a wonderful grandpa to his grandchildren Christopher Merrick (Holly), Travis Merrick (Tiffany), Brett Merrick (Julie) and Kaillie Merrick (Robin). Bill was also a great-grandpa to Miss Ella. Bill spent his final summer doing what he loved most: spending time with his family and the volunteers at the Citizens on Patrol (COPs) unit in Coniston. Wherever Bill and Claire lived, Bill was very active in his community. He was union steward Mine Mill & Smelter Workers - INCO Copper Refinery, Waters Township (Walden) Community Club, Secretary - Waters Township Secondary School Board, President - Sudbury Area Fastball Association, Church League Fastball Association, and Sudbury Royal Fastball Association. He was very active with the community of St. Charles as the Chairman of the Rod and Gun Club Fishing Derby, served on the St. Charles Library Board and was the founding member of the West Arm Water Improvement Association, founding member of the Near North Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, Vice President Near North Trail Association OFSC District 11, OFSC Operations Director District 11, President Frontier Trail Association (Multi Use Trails), Member of the Ontario Federation of ATV Association, member of NEOTTA, North Eastern Ontario Trail and Tourism Association, founding member Sudbury Rails to Trails Corporation, member of the Sudbury Linear Park, and Coniston CAN. Bill`s last volunteer position was Captain of the Nickel Center COPs, and the COPs Advisory Panel. Throughout Bill’s life, he received many certificates for his volunteer work - Certificate of Appreciation – Near North Trail Association, Recognition Award – Council for the Corporation of the Townships of Casimir, Jennings and Appleby 1995, Achievement Award 2000 – Benoit Serre MP Temiskaming-Cochrane, 2000 Achievement Award – Sudbury East Board of Trade, 2003 Certificate of Appreciation – Sudbury East Municipal Association, 2003 Certificate of Appreciation – The Municipality of Markstay-Warren, 2010 Certificate of Appreciation – The Greater Sudbury Police Services Board, 2011 Certificate of Appreciation Volunteer Team – Special Olympics Ontario, 2014 - 5 Year Volunteer Award Citizens On Patrol – Greater Sudbury Police Service, 2014 Chief’s Recognition Award – Greater Sudbury Police Service.
