Our mother – our friend, our confidant, our biggest fan has gone to be with the Lord. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Gladys Cunningham (Brightman) on Friday November 20th, 2015 at Extendicare Falconbridge at 89 years of age. Born in Scotch Village, Nova Scotia on December 25th, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Octavia (Deerman) Brightman and was the beloved wife of William Burton Cunningham (Bill) who predeceased her in 1980. Most loved mother of Glena (predeceased in 2014) and her husband Norman Proulx, Jim and his wife Pat (predeceased 2011), Beverly (predeceased 1989) and her husband Andre Picard, and Ann and her husband Frank Watts. Treasured foster mother to Mark Sansoucy. Sweet Gramma to 11 grandchildren – Kenneth, Sheila & Patrick Proulx, Jodi and Sara Cunningham, Andrea, Chantal and Renee Picard, Courtney, Jordan and Cameron Watts, as well as 13 great grandchildren She was the eldest sister of Herman (predeceased), Floyd (predeceased), Donald, Robert, and Pallisier (predeceased) Brightman, Frances Janicki, Helen Strong, Judy Miller, and Velva Gares. Marie’s greatest joy came from loving and caring for children, she was a foster mother for over 50 years and she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League at Holy Redeemer Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76. The family expresses their appreciation to the 2nd Floor Staff at Extendicare-Falconbridge for their many kindnesses, and exceptional care to our mother. Mass of Christian Burial Holy Redeemer Church 1887 Bancroft Drive, Sudbury Tuesday, November 24th, 2015 at 11 A.M. With reception to follow in the Parish Hall Interment in the family plot at Parklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Northern Cancer Foundation or Charity of your choice would be appreciated. Friends may gather at the Church after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home. “ A mother holds her children’s hands for a while.... their hearts forever.” Unknown
