HANWELL, T. Donald

February 11, 2016

In Loving Memory of Donald Thomas Hanwell November 13th, 1941 – February 11th, 2016 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Don at Health Sciences North, Sudbury, Ontario. Don was born and raised in Sudbury; predeceased by Stewart and Frances Hanwell; a devoted husband, father, brother and undeniably the life of every party! Beloved husband to Nancy (nee Woodhouse), loving father of Heather Cooper (Larry) of Aurora, ON, extraordinary grandfather to Logan and grand-dog Stuart. Dear brother of Eilyne Cheevers-Kinsella (Richard) of Brantford, ON; brother in law to Mary and Jim Cavers of Uxbridge, ON; cherished uncle to nephews Tim, Michael, Don, Jimmy and nieces Joanne and Katie and their families. He was an avid lover and hater of international politics and expressed his opinion, solicited or not. He had a witty sense of humour; he was a passionate football fan and had a genuine fondness for all dogs. He worked for 40 years in sales and marketing travelling throughout Northern Ontario and prior to hanging up his “Sales Hat” acquired his own agency. He enjoyed his retirement years taking pleasure in watching his backyard and garden flourish. With his sudden exodus, he leaves behind a hell of a lot of stuff his wife and daughter have no idea what to do with. Everyone who remembers Don is asked to celebrate his life in their own way; raising a glass of their favourite drink in his honour would be quite appropriate. As per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place; no funeral service or visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 26th, 2016 from 2-4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 76, Minnow Lake. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Health Sciences North, ER, CMU and CVT ICU units for their caring and compassion during his brief stay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elgin Street Mission or the Sudbury Food Bank. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
