In loving memory of Ellen “Nell” White (nee Collins), 86 years Passed away at Southlake Residential Village on Wednesday July 16, 2014 with family by her side. Beloved wife of Dr. William James White and mother of William (junior), and baby daughter Ellen, all predeceased. Survived by her loving daughter April White-Stesco (Raymond Stesco) of Aurora, her sons Matthew and Adam and daughter Vanessa Reinwald (Richard) of Strathmore Alberta and her children Katrina and Darren. Daughter of Patrick Collins and Mary Agnes Skeffington both predeceased. Survived by her brother John Collins (Margaret) and family and predeceased by niece Nancy. Also predeceased by her brother James, her sisters Margaret and Katherine - sons Patrick and Scott. . Nell studied nursing in North Bay and for a short time after graduating, worked in a Montreal hospital in Paediatrics. Returned to Sudbury and was among the 1st group of nurses to open the Sudbury General Hospital in 1950. Worked as the head nurse on the surgical floor where she met her late husband Dr. ""Bill"" White. Then retired from nursing. For 4 summers in the 1970's, Nell volunteered as nurse at a hospital in St. Lucia along with her late husband Dr. Bill White. In the early 70's, began her longtime volunteer work for 4 days a week at The Sudbury General Hospital up until retiring in 2005. For her services in volunteering was awarded a medal from the Ontario Government for her dedicated volunteer service spanning over 30 years. Was a world traveler and along with her husband, Bill, experienced many trips to wonderful locations. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Hospital for Sick Children (Rheumatology Division) Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Friends may gather after 11:00, in the chapel with service at 11:30 followed by a reception. A special thank you to the entire staff of Southlake Residential Village in Newmarket, for the great care that was given to Nell.
