In loving memory of George Friel, 92 years, of Sudbury, who passed away September 12th, 2014 at Health Sciences North, with his loving family by his side. Beloved husband of Irene Ranger (predeceased 2006). Loving father of Jerry (wife Rita), Betty (husband Bill Swech), and Wayne (wife Claudette). Cherished grandfather of Lisa (Kelly Brown), Patrick (Chantal Cormier), Sheri (Ken Bonnis), Danny (Julie), Steven (Melanie) and step-grandchildren Alison (Paul Mosher) and Karen Barlow. Great grandfather of Jessica Bonnis, Sarah Bonnis, Alex Friel, Ashley Friel, Mackenzie Friel, Bradley Friel, Megan Mosher, Adam Mosher, and Ben Mosher. Dear son of Peter and Annie Friel (Camidge) (both predeceased). Beloved brother of Kay Rae of Toronto and William Friel (predeceased). Will be missed by many nieces and nephews. George was born and raised in Sudbury and in 1941 he married Irene Ranger in Capreol. They were married for 65 years, until Irene’s passing in 2006. George, at age 15, started his working career at Gardner Motors, Sudbury Motors and in 1942 George was hired at INCO (Vale) Limited as an apprentice, where he worked and educated himself to higher and higher positions, becoming a Maintenance Specialist. His knowledge of machinery was well-respected in his working community and in the family. He was sought after by all for the answer on how to repair something. He has passed this knowledge on to his sons. George retired in 1977 after having 35 years of service. He lived a full and busy life, enjoying his camp on Lake Wahnapitae for many, many years. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jane Laplante for her special care and compassion for Dad over the past few years. Her care for him made Dad’s life very fulfilling. Poppa George will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Funeral Service in the Lougheed Funeral Home 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. Monday, September 15th, 2014 at 3pm. (Friends may gather after 1pm Monday). Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
