In loving memory of “Ike” Ikonen who died suddenly at Health Sciences North, Sudbury, on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the age of 71, when God stepped in and said, “You’re coming with me.”  Ike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary and John Ikonen, mother and father-in-law, Marie and Nels Thibault, sister Aino (Ikonen) DiFilippo, brothers-in-law, Dip DiFilippo, and Wayne Thibault,  Nelson Bradley Thibault, and nephew Kevin Riutta.  Ike was born in Sudbury, March 5, 1943.  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane (Thibault) Ikonen, his beloved sons, John and Jody (daughter-in-love,  Renée Coulombe), beloved grandsons, Sabastian and Kaden, sister Elvi (Ikonen) Riutta (husband Allan Riutta), sisters-in-law Carol Thibault (Norm Chouinard), Joanne Thibault, Marie Poirier, Karen Thibault-Henri, nieces Carol-Ann Frank, Allison (Riutta) Hamilton (husband Bill Hamilton), Andrea (Thibault) Meinen ( husband Jon Meinen), nephews Rob DiFilippo (wife Cindy), Tim Riutta (Lynne), Sean Thibault (Denise St. Pierre), Shannon Thibault (Gisele Lamoureux-Thibault), Matthew Thibault, Korbin Thibault (Cassandra), Tarik Thibault (Rae-Anne), and many great nephews and nieces. Ike was born, raised, and lived a robust life in Greater Sudbury, a city he loved and boosted. He had elite athletic skills that he devoted to the OFSSA Hockey Championship Team at Sheridan Tech, and which awarded him a place in the Laurentian University Voyageur Hockey Hall of Fame. From his high school days, Ike was gifted in the game of pool, which he loved, and played till the end, in his typical competitive way.  Ike was a successful sales representative in auto sales for Sudbury Motors, Crosstown and Masciangelo Motors. Ike had a special place in his heart for so many special people, including his Pastor, Jeremy Mahood, traveling buddies John Neely, Pauline and Brent Langille,  CBS buddy Lorie Lavallee, New Sudbury neighbors, Gerry Rasi and Jean Kydd, Black Lake neighbors, Jeannine and Bob Zadow, and Small Group for Bible Study members. Favorite places included Ikonen’s Rustic Retreat on Black Lake, Lively, where the sauna always made the world a brighter place, his wonderful New Sudbury neighborhood, All Nations Church, local golf courses, the Plaza pool room, and Tim Hortons where he enjoyed coffee, crossword puzzles, and meeting new acquaintances. God blessed Ike with many relatives, friends and neighbors whom he cherished and often surprised with his quirky, unexpected quips.      Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 28, 4:00 – 8:00 pm, at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 11:30 am at Glad Tidings Church Sanctuary, 1101 Regent St., Sudbury, Ontario, on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 11:30 am. (Friends may gather at the church after 11am Wednesday). A Reception will follow in the Glad Tidings Church Foyer Burial will be 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Park Lawn Cemetery, 379 Horobin Street, Sudbury, P3E 4S4 In lieu of flowers, Ike would appreciate any donations to be made to the All Nations Church Building Fund.
