BETANCOURT, Jean (O'Reilly)

O’REILLY-BETANCOURT, JEAN (nee Margaret Jean Barr) has finished her journey here on earth.  We have been so fortunate to have had her with us to the grand age of 99 ½ years.   She is predeceased by husband William James Mapes 1963; Edmund David O’Reilly 1976 and George John Betancourt June 1st of this year.   Jean has been a devoted and loving mother to her children Wilma MacDonald (Paul), Frank Mapes (Linda) and Marsha Granthien (Harold predeceased) and will be sadly missed by her 7 grandchildren Kathleen Sologuk (Terry), Linda Fyfe (Tom), Doug MacDonald, Shelley Salehi (Farzad), David Mapes (Maura), Farrah Granthien (David Willock), Ian Granthien (Nancy) and 9 great grandchildren; Christopher and Kaitlin Sologuk, Stephanie Fyfe, Miles and Nicholas Mapes, Brennan and Tyler Granthien,  & Nathaniel and Carly Willock.  She always knew there was nothing more important or more rewarding than giving all you can to your family, your friends, and your faith.   Jean was born April 27th, 1915, to David Barr and Isabella Addie Barr at Glenburne Farm in Horton Township, Renfrew County, the youngest of 8 children.  She moved to Sudbury upon her marriage in 1936.  She was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Church, The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Branch 76 since 1976, and was active in The Girl Guides of Canada and Prince Charles Home and School Association, and was never too busy to drive her friends places or bake and deliver her excellent tea biscuits and famous apple pies.   She was the last surviving member of her family of 4 sisters; Marion MacLaren, Agnes Knight, Sara Raymond and Janet Airth, and 3 brothers William, Peter and David Barr.   The family wishes to thank The Breezes (The Amberwood Suites) and Tina MacKinnon and her staff of PSW’s for the many years of care & kindness they provided.  We also wish to thank the excellent PCA’s at St. Joseph’s Villa who cared for Mother during her short stay with them.   Funeral Service  in the  R.
