In Loving Memory of Sylvia Domenica (nee Grassi) Drago Sunday December 14th, 2014 at her daughter’s house in Toronto surrounded by her loving family after a courageous journey with cancer. Beloved wife and best friend of 52 years to Joe Drago. Loving mother of Deana (Dean Principi) and Lisa (Evan Sversky). Cherished Nana of Marika, Mia, Alexa, Zoe and step grandson Harrison. Dear daughter of Norm and Armene Grassi both predeceased. Dear sister of Richard Grassi predeceased. Special sister in law to Louise Young (Drago), Garry Young and daughter in law of Guy and Gilda Drago (predeceased). Much loved aunt of Leah Young (Wassim Oueslati), and the late Garry Young Jr. A proud person, Sylvia will be remembered as strong willed, committed, compassionate and always positive. A solid influence on her many students and others she met throughout her life. Sylvia was a well respected teacher with the Sudbury Board of Education for 30 years. She had received an outstanding teacher award from the Province of Ontario. She was the beloved wife and best friend to Joe supporting his many hockey commitments, endeavours and travels. Her efforts and energy were recognized by Hockey Canada as she was the recipient of the Liz McKinnon Award and this May will receive the Christine Penman Award from the Ontario Hockey Federation. She was a devout Roman Catholic attending St. Andrew the Apostle Church. Sylvia was the heart and soul of her family. She loved to take the grandchildren on hikes on nature trails. She took great pride and interest in their activities and accomplishments with daily telephone calls and Face Time. She was an inspired mentor and dedicated mother to her daughters, cherished her son in laws, and was soul mate to her loving husband. She will be missed by her canine buddy Bentley who faithfully sat beside her entire illness. The light of her life will be will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street, Sudbury (Friends may call 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, Tuesday with parish prayers at 3 PM) Funeral Mass in St. Andrew the Apostle Church 1250 Barrydowne Road, Sudbury Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 at 12 Noon Cremation with interment in the family plot at Parklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Joe and Sylvia Drago Endowment Fund would be appreciated
