It is with overwhelming sadness, the family wishes to announce the passing of a gentle, compassionate, strong and loving man at Health Sciences North on Thursday February 26, 2015 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 38 years to Trina (Guatto) Hurd. Loving stepfather of Marlene Ellenberger (predeceased), Charlene Gaudreault (Marc), and father of Shaun Fraser (Don), Roxanne Rantanen, Carrie Hurd, and Renn Hurd (partner Lynn Lemay). Born in Kearney, ON , he was the son of the late Lloyd and Annie Mason. Dear brother of Roberta and Kenneth (predeceased), Karl of Ontario and Howard of B.C. A cherished grandfather and soon to be great grandfather of 2, he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Left wondering where he went are his four legged companions Mitzu, Sadie and Treasure. Merv was an I.N.C.O. Mine Foreman when he retired after 35 years service. An avid fisherman and moose hunter until his later years. In keeping with Merv’s wishes there will be no visitation or celebration of life. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
