In Loving Memory of Ledo Celli Passed away on Saturday, June 27th, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Ledo was born on September 3rd, 1926 in Carrufo, Italy to Antoniella Di Marco and Sante Celli. Loving husband of 58 years to Ostilia (nee Falone).Beloved father of Anna (Frank) and Rita (Ric). Nonno of Leandra and Christian. Precious brother to Nina (Salvatore Colarossi) both predeceased and Iole Colarossi (Antonio predeceased). Ledo leaves behind several nieces. At 19, Ledo left war-ravaged Italy to seek work to financially support his parents and sisters. He and a few friends made an arduous trip by foot, over the Alps, into France. They left their village with only the clothes on their back. When one man had trouble breathing on the mountain, and wanted to stop, Ledo hooked his friend on his belt and dragged him along. ""How much farther,"" his friend would ask. ""Just over there,"" Ledo constantly reassured him. In later years, he would cry. ""I didn't know how long it would take. I just couldn't leave him."" Every story Ledo told, explained the essence of his values. Ledo immigrated to Canada in 1951 working in Timmins, Vancouver and finally Sudbury. For 38 years, he was a public works foreman for the Regional Municipality of Sudbury. He loved singing and music, sharing Italian proverbs, gardening, making wine, and above all, caring and protecting his family. He was a life member of the Caruso Club and a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish. Forever changed by WWII, Ledo was a fierce believer in equality for all, and fighting for the disadvantaged. Whether it was visiting the elderly in nursing homes or joining peace marches, his passion for justice remained. In lieu of flowers, please offer an act of kindness to someone who needs it. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Hope Church, 591 Brennan Road, Sudbury Friday, July 3rd, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. (Friends may gather at the church after 10:00 A.M. Friday.)
