TER BRAAK, Johannes 'John'

In loving memory of John Ter Braak, 92 years, who passed away peacefully at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury on Thursday, November 26th, 2015. Born in Haaksbergen, Holland, on August 13, 1923, John emigrated from Holland in June 1953, with a big dream to start a new life in Canada. He shared this dream and married his best friend and pen pal, Truus, in 1958. John was happiest when he was riding on his tractor, playing cards with his friends, or working in the garden. Many friends and family left his home thinking they were bringing home a “kleine beetje” and left with a bushel of his harvest. With his “Dutch” determination and creativity, he lived with the attitude that anything was possible as long as one was willing to work hard. He was so proud to be an Opa and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. Beloved husband of the late Trudy (nee Broens). Loving father of Diana of Azilda, Janet (Bernie Villeneuve) of Hanmer, Brenda (Andrew Blair) of Waterloo, Gerry (Renee Terbraak) of Thorold and Irene (Marc Gaudet) of Chelmsford. Loving Opa to Ryan, Megan, Chelsea, Kaela, Lauren, Hannah, Julia, Adrian, Jessica, Danielle, and Jonathan. Predeceased by his parents, Gerrit Jan and Johanna Berendina (nee ter Maath), his brothers, Gerhardus Johannes, Hendrikus Bernardus, and Bernardus Jozef, and sisters, Hermina Christina Maria (Kamp), and Maria Geertruida, all from Holland. Beloved brother-in-law to Joop (predeceased Riek), Johan (predeceased Riny), Annie and Anton, Mini (predeceased Gerrit), Tonny and Jan, all from Holland. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Monday, November 30th, 2015 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral to be held at St. Alexander Church at 100 Gaudette St., Chelmsford at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1st, with reception to follow in the Fellowship Room. A special thank you to the staff at the Pioneer Manor Lodge for their kind, compassionate care and friendship to our father and family. Donations to the Alzheimer Society or Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC) would be appreciated. Condolences and wishes can be expressed at www.lougheed.org. Tot ziens!
